
Dr. Musaad Ali Alshammari
Dr. Musaad Alshammari joined Saudi NIH as Director for Research Office in August 2021. Prior to his current leadership role, he has served as a consultant and project manager of the health research priorities and developing a National 5-year strategic plan project.
Before joining Saudi NIH, Dr. Alshammari was the Vice Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research in the College of Pharmacy at King Saud University (KSU), a position he held from 2019 to 2021. As A Vice Dean, Dr. Alshammari was responsible for 5 Ph.D. and 10 Master’s programs as well as research activities in the College of Pharmacy. He held numerous administrative positions at KSU, including Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology Department, Chair of King Saud University Research Ethics Sub-Committee (REC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Director of College of Pharmacy Laboratories and Risk Management Unit, and Director of Innovation Unit at College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Alshammari holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Texas Medical Branch, TX, USA, and a bachelor’s degree from College of Pharmacy, King Saud University.
Dr. Alshammari is an expert in the field of neuropharmacology. Since he was appointed as an Associate Professor, Dr. Alshammari was the principal investigator and Co-investigator in research funding from the King Saud University and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). He has more than 28 abstracts presented in different national and international scientific events and 34 published papers in prestigious journals such as Nature Translational Psychiatry, Molecular Neurobiology, Cell Reports, and Autism research.
Dr. Alshammari is involved in many projects and has collaborators in the USA, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, including the University of Texas Medical Branch, Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Turin, King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), and KACST. He has good mentoring records of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Currently, Dr. Alshammari is working with the Saudi NIH leaders to create a transformation plan and provide a foundation for grant management requirements and standards to help in effectively managing grants in alignment with the Saudi 2030 vision.
