
Cesar Sanz Rodriguez
Cesar Sanz Rodriguez has joined Moderna in 2021 to lead its Medical Affairs organization in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), which is responsible for successfully creating and executing medical strategies and ensuring high-quality medical information across Moderna’s portfolio. Cesar is a member of Moderna’s EMEA and Global Medical Affairs Leadership Teams.
Cesar brings over 20 years of experience in medical affairs and clinical research across different therapy areas, including Vaccines, Anti-Infectives, Oncology and others, at country, regional and global levels.
Prior to joining the global pharmaceutical industry, Cesar was a practicing onco-hematologist in Madrid. He trained as a M.D. at Universidad of Alcala de Henares and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology at Universitat de Lleida in Spain. Thereafter, he specialized in Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at Hospital Universitario de la Princesa in Madrid. He holds a M.Sc. in Statistics & Study Design Applied to Health Sciences, by Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, and a Post-Graduate Management Degree in Pharmaceutical Industry, by Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.
Over time, he has completed several research stages at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (New Mexico, USA), the Jefferson Institute of Molecular Medicine (Philadelphia, PA, USA), Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO, USA) and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX, USA). Cesar’s early research work was awarded by Spain’s National Royal Academy of Medicine in 1999. Between 2011 and 2014, he also served as member of the Board of Directors of the Research Foundation for Innovative Medicines MEDINA in Granada, and the Executive Committee of the Foundation for Research & Prevention of AIDS FIPSE, both in Spain. Cesar has authored 35 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, >130 abstracts to scientific congresses, and 2 book chapters.
